Extractions Don't Have To Be A Pain

If you're worried about getting a tooth extraction, you're not alone. At Covington Signature Dentistry, we have seen many of our patients anxious about what an extraction will feel like and recovery. That said, we understand these concerns and perform painless tooth extractions for our patients.

Why Might I Need a Tooth Extracted?

A person may need dental extraction because of the following reasons:

  • Traumatic Damage
  • Overcrowded or poorly positioned teeth
  • Periodontal disease that loosens or damages the teeth
  • Severe tooth decay
  • To preserve bone in the empty socket
  • Impacted teeth that cause problems, such as wisdom teeth

Painless Teeth Extractions

At Covington Signature Dentistry, we try preserving or saving the teeth whenever possible. Our team will perform an evaluation of the patient's mouth to determine whether tooth extraction is the only choice.

Our dental office is equipped with modern anesthesia methods and sedation options to ensure that the extraction process involves little discomfort and the patient has a fast, easy recovery.

Our patients can assure that we will suggest an extraction only if we believe it is inevitable and will ultimately improve their oral health.

What to Expect During a Tooth Extraction at Covington Signature Dentistry?

At Covington Signature Dentistry, our dental team starts the extraction process by carefully planning the treatment to ensure minimal patient discomfort. We will review the patient's x-rays to monitor the exact position of the teeth. In this way, it is possible to lessen the impact on the surrounding jawbone tissue. To further reduce pain and discomfort and eliminate inflammation, we offer state-of-the-art anesthesia options. This helps us to deliver controlled medications and accurately adjust the levels as needed.

Our anesthesia process also ensures that the patient experiences more minor discomfort than a traditional injection of local anesthetic. We also offer other sedation dentistry options to help anxious patients have a relaxed dental experience during the procedures.

After-care

After the extraction, the patient can go home shortly after the procedure. The numbness of the lips and cheek will wear off in a few hours.

  • Our dentist will place gauze in the patient's mouth to stop the bleeding and help form a blood clot.
  • Placing an ice pack on the cheek helps keep swelling down.
  • Our dentist will prescribe a pain reliever to ease pain and discomfort after the procedure.
  • Start brushing and flossing the other teeth without touching the open socket the day after the surgery.
  • Eat only soft foods. Chew on the other side of your mouth.
