Make Oral Health Your New Year’s Resolution

Make Oral Health Your New Year’s Resolution

Posted by COVINGTON DENTISTRY on Jan 4 2021, 04:49 AM

Hope you have already made your New Year's resolutions. Adding your oral hygiene to the list would be a great way to start. Instead of making vague resolutions, be specific and resolve to preserve your oral health by brushing twice and flossing at least once a day.

Brush and Floss

Though it seems obvious, brushing twice a day and flossing at least once a day are the keys to getting rid of most dental problems. They help to ensure that your teeth and gums are strong and healthy.

Eat More Fruits and Veggies

Maintaining a healthy diet can boost your immunity. Eating fruits and veggies rich in antioxidants and minerals helps you fight against bacteria and inflammation. Fiber-rich food can remove dental plaque and increase saliva production.

Drink Plenty of Water

Drinking enough water improves your oral hygiene. It cleans your mouth from food debris and bacteria buildups. It prevents dry mouth. Fluoride in water can make your teeth resistant to harmful bacteria and acids.

Quit Smoking

Most of you are aware that using tobacco products can damage your teeth. It can cause cavities, discoloration, gum recession, and oral cancer. Smokers have more chances of losing teeth compared to non-smokers.

Reduce Alcohol Intake

Everyone knows that consuming too much alcohol is not good for your health. But it also has a bad effect on your oral health. It’s believed that people who drink too much suffer from gum recession more than others.

Regularly Do Dental Visits

Try to be regular with your dental checkups. The dentist will tell you whether your teeth and gums are all good or not. They also give some advice to prevent dental issues in the future. You should make it a habit to visit the dentist at least twice a year.

Don’t Rinse

After brushing our teeth, we often spit the toothpaste and rinse it with water. But this will wash away the fluoride that can protect our teeth. The fluoride in your toothpaste helps in strengthening your tooth enamel and prevents tooth decay. So, if you don’t rinse your mouth, then it will remain on your teeth.

So, let this New Year’s resolution be about maintaining your healthy smile!
